Rejeaeli John Sarakikya, 59, resides with his family in Muungano village, King’ori ward. The father of four children including two girls is a member of the Kiusaki Self Help Group (SHG) that joined the HiH program in 2021. Prior to this intervention and getting trained, Rajeaeli was engaged in tomato farming that earned him between TZS 3,000 and TZS 5,000 daily and barely made enough income to meet his basic needs.
Thanks to the savings mobilization and enterprise development training that instilled in him a high degree of self-confidence and resilience, he now possesses the necessary tools every small business owner should have. Having put himself in the right track for success, Rajeaeli has ventured into mixed farming and grows spinach and eggplant that both mature in a short time and will undoubtedly profit him both in the short and long run.
Among the skills Rejeaeli has benefited from is the adoption of different climate resilience practices including the preparation and application of composite manure. The members of the Kiusaki SHG had received the theoretical and practical skills in composting for the purposes of procuring manure that is friendly to the environment and would support increased production of agricultural crops such as maize, banana and vegetables.
A determined Rejeaeli now fetches not less than TZS 4,000 a day, which has increased his total income on average by more than TZS 7,000 shillings a day.
