Patrick Joseph Swai (17) is a form three student from Somsom secondary school in Kilimanjaro Region. He lives with both parents, and is the last of seven children born. Patrick Joined HIHEA-TZ under the project “Empowering Young Generations with Digital Enterprises, a project that aims at empowering young girls and boys between the age of 15-17.
The purpose of the project is to have an eco-generation in entrepreneurship and digitization. The eco-generation is built on capacity building, environmental awareness and information exchange with the vision to foster a generation of environmentally conscious citizens capable of positive actions. The project envisions to increased awareness and interests among students in eco-entrepreneurship-any enterprise that promote eco-system and carbon reduction e.g., home gardening, recycling and composting, as viable alternative to formal employment.
The project also intends to ensure have access and familiarity to digitalization technology through trainings on how to use digital technologies to find jobs do business, participate in society and contribute to the local economy. After joining HiHEA-TZ, He received training on good agricultural practices, and now he has 5 beds of vegetables and 7 of orange fresh sweet potatoes. Patrick’s plan is to have an acre of vegetable by the time He is in form Four (4).
