Enterprise Development for Rural Families (EDRF) is a project funded by Swedish International Development Agency (SIDA) and is being implemented by Hand in Hand Eastern Africa (HiH EA) in seven (7) counties of Baringo, Nakuru, Nyandarua, Kajiado, Laikipia, Machakos and Makueni. The project’s goal is to support the development of profitable, sustainable enterprises in rural and peri-urban areas, targeting marginalized women (80%), youth (30%) and vulnerable men. The project aims at addressing four key problems that hinder the development of profitable and sustainable business among the poor in the rural and peri-urban areas namely: lack of information for enterprise development, lack of entrepreneurial skills, lack of market access, and lack of access to financial services.

Members reached:

Through the dedicated efforts of our field officers, we have reached 11,170 members whom we have trained and equipped with entrepreneurship skills.

Enterprises and Jobs:

As of June 2023, we have created and enhanced 7,629 sustainable enterprises and 10,722 Sustainable jobs through the EDRF project.

Micro-insurance:

To cushion members against social and enterprise risks, HiH EA has trained 1,314 members on micro insurance, of which 496 of these members have bought insurance policies.

Credit:

For enterprise growth, HIH EA has been able to facilitate access to credit to 3057 members from Nakuru county amounting to KES 54,452,145 since the start of the EDRF.

Digital Marketing:

To increase visibility and expansion of member’s enterprises, HiH EA has trained 2,282 members on digital marketing, of which 197 digital accounts have been opened, and goods/services worth KES 3,372,950 has been marketed through the platforms.

Innovations:

In an effort to unlock groups and CBOs business potential, as a project in Nakuru,Baringo,Kajiando, Machakos, Makueni, Laikipia and Nyahururu Counties, have managed to disburse KES  regarded as grant;
