Currently, Ethiopia hosts 411,896 South Sudanese refugees and asylum seekers according to UNHCR with a majority of these being female (53.3%). However, recently the government of Ethiopia began accepting applications from refugees for civil registration where refugees will receive a certificate to document life events such as births, deaths and marriage. By end of October 2017, approximately 11 refugees had registered at the Administration for Refugee and Returnee Affairs offices in Addis Ababa.
